    Hike to the highest peak of Mount Olympus — Mytikas, through its wild and majestic northwestern side

    Olympus, the highest Greek mountain with an altitude of 2.918m (Mytikas peak), is the country’s first National Park. One of the most unforgettable experiences Olympus can offer you, is the ascent of its highest peaks, Mytikas and Skolio, attainable in just one day with the help of a mountain guide. One day climb to Mytika (2.918m), the highest peak of Olympus, in 3 hours. Recommended climbing period (June – October). Difficult access to a dirt road of 15km from the village of Kalyvia to Christaki Refuge (2.600m). 4×4 vehicle is needed. Follows hiking to Skolio and Mytikas peaks in about 2.30 hours. A certified mountain guide is necessary- available from our hotel upon request. For demanding hikers who have time and want to cover miles. Starting point: Olympus Training Centre for Mountain Races and Ski (KEOAX) / Vrysopoules – Agios Antonios – Skolio. Climb to Skolio (2.912m) from KEOAX, 11.4km to Agios Antonios and about 14.5km to Skolio. Through hiking lovers can continue to Mytikas (2.918m), a 2 hours hiking Also, Hiking routes around the village of Agios Dimitrios, of low and difficult level, depending on the hikers’ preferences.

      • Titaros – Olympus – Pieria Mountains | European Trail E4

      The northwestern slopes of Mount Olympus form an ideal terrain for mountain hiking, combining the landscape of three major mountain ranges: Titaros, Olympus, and the Pieria Mountains.

      • Titaros

      Titaros offers gentle hiking routes through oak and chestnut forests. Several trails descend towards the village of Agios Dimitrios Pierias, following forest paths with mild elevation changes and pleasant terrain. Suitable for all hikers, including families.

      • Kokkinopilos

      The mountain village of Kokkinopilos, located at an altitude of about 1,100 meters, is a perfect starting point for hikes of varying difficulty. Officially mapped trails of both mild and demanding level begin here, traversing lush forests, alpine scenery, and offering breathtaking panoramic views.

      One of the most iconic routes crosses the European Trail E4, which passes through Kokkinopilos and leads adventurous hikers all the way to the summit of Skolio (2,911m), the second-highest peak of Mount Olympus, with sweeping views of Mytikas, Stefani, and the Plateau of the Muses.

      • Kokkinopeilos Circular Hiking Trail – Easy Difficulty

This 14-kilometer route winds through serene forests of beech, fir, and pine, offering a peaceful and authentic experience in nature.

      • European Trail E4 – Voulgara (1,650m)

      The E4, part of the international European trail network, follows a unique path through landscapes of wild and tranquil beauty. In the northwestern region of Mount Olympus, the trail crosses Titaros, passes through Kokkinopilos, and reaches the Voulgara area — a natural junction between the Olympus, Titaros, and Pieria massifs. This is a key point that connects various hiking networks, enriching the overall experience for nature-loving hikers.

      • NAOUM Ridge

      The NAOUM ridge, also known as the Xerolaki stream, starts from the northwestern slopes of Mount Olympus, within the rocky basin of Megala Kazania. It follows a natural alpine line between two emblematic peaks of Northern Olympus: the climbing summit Naoum and the mountaineering peak Skolio. The ridge includes demanding sections with technical passages and steep elevation changes. For your safety, we strongly recommend hiking with an experienced mountain guide. The route ends at the Plateau of the Muses, one of the most stunning spots on Mount Olympus.

      • Hiking the Faethon Sky Race Trail

      A unique alpine route with panoramic views of the three highest peaks of Mount Olympus – Mytikas, Stefani, and Skolio.

      🥾 Route Description

       

      Starting Point – Central Square of Kokkinopilos (1,115 m)

      Your journey begins in the traditional mountain village of Kokkinopilos. After about 800 meters on asphalt, you’ll enter the E4 path through a dense fir forest – the start of a dramatic and rewarding ascent.

      Kiosk – 2.2 km, 1,350 m

      A mild uphill path brings you to the “Kiosk” rest area – a perfect spot for a quick pause and to enjoy the sweeping views.

      Stalamatia Stream – 5.3 km, 1,650 m

      The trail continues through the Stalamatia ravine. The slope increases gradually, and the landscape becomes more majestic and wild.

      Smeos – 8.2 km, 2,100 m

      The path meets a dirt road. This is a great point for regrouping before the route enters the high alpine zone. Trees thin out and the first summit views appear.

      Alpine Ridge – up to 12 km, 2,520 m

      Reaching the highest point of the hike, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the entire Olympus range, including its legendary three peaks. This is the heart of the Faethon route.

      Alpine Crests / Kitros – 13–18 km, ~2,430 m

      An incredible section along narrow alpine ridgelines: Flambouro – Kitros – Kardaras. Pure rock, wind, and light – an experience of untouched wilderness.

      Descent to “Roudi” Spring – 20.3 km, 1,740 m

      A major descent of around 1,300 vertical meters over 6 km takes you to the “Roudi” spring – an ideal resting point with cold mountain water and natural serenity.

      Final Section – Through Forest Back to Kokkinopilos – up to 23.3 km, 1,115 m

      The trail concludes with a gentle descent through pine and fir forest, reconnecting with the E4 and circling back to the village square – a full loop through Olympus’ most secret beauty.
